COURSE RATIONALE

Introduces students to fundamental skills for an actor.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This unit is designed to develop the actor's holistic craft; body, voice, intellect and empathy.

 

Students are introduced to technical acting concepts through practical exercises that facilitate the development of imagination, as well as basic textual knowledge.

 

Through exploration and reflection, students develop an embodied understanding of acting, grounded in developing self-awareness.

By the successful completion of the unit, a student should have:

 

  • Explored the imaginative potential of the body and voice through embodied performance.

  • Demonstrated a developing sense of technical acting ability through performing dramatic text.

  • Reflected on their individual learning through describing practical exercises, and recalling their observations of them.

CREATIVE PORTFOLIO

The portfolio consists of 2 contrasting monologues and a professionally executed

self-tape.

Students will get weekly in-class feedback.
