COURSE RATIONALE

Introduces students to the fundamentals of photography, videography and social media marketing techniques to provide engaging digital content.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This unit introduces students to the fundamentals of content creation, capturing images and videos and creating an online presence for their own brand identity or small to large businesses.


Students will complete weekly studies with a mixture of theory and practical work putting these techniques into practice.

 

Students will finish the course with a complete online portfolio to showcase the content they have created on their new or existing social media platforms.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the completion of this unit a student should be able to:

 

  • Identify the standard functions of any DSLR

  • How to properly expose your subject

  • Understand and apply the basics of lighting a subject

  • When and how to use camera movements

  • Understand the steps of pre-production, production and post-production

  • Best practices for social media content

CREATIVE PORTFOLIO

Description
The creative portfolio will consist of 2 Styles of photography (portrait and landscape) and 2 styles of videography (product-based and interview). Students will get weekly in-class feedback and written teacher feedback.


The specific brief for each exercise is given to students during their weekly sessions. The submission for each piece of content above will be handed in via a google drive link.

Equipment to bring for your weekly sessions

  • Digital SLR

  • SD Card 32GB minimum

  • Tripod (optional)

  • Rode Shotgun Microphone (optional)

Creativity requires self-motivation and disciplined practice. You are required to present work (or work-in-progress) in class each week so as to:

  • Demonstrate steady progress

  • Benefit from the cumulative nature of creative work

  • Contribute to class discussions

  • Develop time-management skills
